I'm back from Mexico! and this weekend I'll be mainly finding space in my house for all the papier mache friends I've brought back. But I will be back to work from Monday morning, rested and full of inspiration for getting lots of new things made up for the pop up shop. In the meantime do take a look at this Anthropologie skirt in one of my prints. Now Available in the UK here It is on a cotton silk mix which is pretty classy and I think they've done a really good job with the design. I'm hoping to order one (and tell everyone its from Prada).

Due to the high volume of attendees at our previous private views, we will now be holding two opening events, one in the daytime and one in the evening, to give one space to actually see the products. FINE CELL WORK QUILTS

Following in the true tradition of quilt making, the quilts I designed and hand printed to be pieced together by prisoners have taken years to complete. But finally here they are!! I'm really pleased with the results and its nice to see how the design has been interpreted by the prisoners. They are worth seeing in the flesh as there are many hand embroidered and quilted details that cannot be seen here. They will be for sale at an event organised by Fine Cell Work in the Autumn, which I will post about nearer the time. If you don't know about Fine Cell Work then do look them up they are a very interesting charity working with prisoners. (link to the right)

The shop and gallery is now no more, thanks to everyone who came, all the hard work paid off and it was a massive success. If you missed it you can see images in this review by Amelias Magazine. I am off to Bangkok for a few days on a sourcing trip but as soon as I am back I will get everything up on Etsy so you can still buy online. I am also in the process of sorting out my website, I know its been a long time coming! See you soon..

Here is my poster for Friends of Homerton Station Wildflower planting Society up in Homerton station. You can't see the details very well because of the reflection but there's a proper image of the design a few posts below. At the moment there are some daffodils and snowdrops on the banks, and lots of green sprouts signalling exciting things to come. If you're ever in Homerton station take a look over the railings (after stopping by my poster to revise the poetic plant names)

This is a painting that has now formed part of the collection for the Museum of British Folklore. It is a painting on glass, etched away in sections, called
''Scenes from British Folklore in mock scrimshaw style''. . Pretty self explanatory really!

The folkloric practices involved include the Burryman, Hobby horses, Mummer's plays, Mermaids and Shellycoats, May day celebrations, the Dunmow flitch, the Whittlesea straw bear, Swan Upping, Well dressing, Abbots Bromley Horn dancing, beating the boundaries, Chalk figures, Maiden's garlands,Welsh love spoons, corn dollies....

Cement Menagerie

These are a few of the photos I took at the amazing Cement menagerie in Branxton Northumberland.It is the project of a man called John Fairnington who,in 1962 at the age of 80, began building hundreds of these incredible people and animals in his back garden for his disabled son, stopping only when his son died in 1971. Now I don't meant to be soppy but it is one of the most charming and life affirming things I have ever seen.It'll definitely keep me going in happiness for a good 6 months.Now run by John's great niece its still lovingly maintained, open every single day and free of charge.So basically if you're anywhere even vaguely North then you better go here!!great.

Fine Cell Work quilt

I have just finished printing pieces for two quilts that I designed as a commission for Fine Cell Work. They are a charity that works to teach embroidery, quilting and sewing skills to inmates across Britain. Their work is used to make some wonderful products, mainly for interiors, which the prisoners are able to earn money from. Read more about them on their website

I hand printed and dyed the pieces and handed them over to a man called Tony to piece together and hand embroider. I'm pretty excited to see the results. They will be showcased at a fundraising event and sale at the Victoria and Albert Museum. The reception is to tie in with the V&A's exhibition of British quilts which includes a quilt made by prisoners for Fine Cell Work.

I'm not sure if I told them but the image is a kind of mad tribute to the obsessive devotion of an owner's memorial to one of many dogs in a pet cemetery that I became quite obsessed with a few years ago.. I think they've done it well! (Don't be put off by the dead dogs and madness talk, it's also quite a nice architectural drawing/ geometric pattern too..?)

Friday 10th December TERRACE open studios Private view. Come see some of my paintings in their natural setting ( a cold small studio), alongside some other talented peoples work. 4-17 Frederick terrace Dalston E8 4EW. 6.30-9pm on Friday for drinks. Will be open all weekend too. On saturday Max Wade will be holding the fort. His new paintings and woodcuts are brill.

Saturday 11th December MANGLE sale. Come see mine and Caitlin's wares (theres some great new stuff hot off the press!) in a wonderful setting up in the balcony of a beautiful old Tabernacle. oops the flyers above here.

I will have some new paintings in a group show at The James Taylor Building in Hackney from this Friday 21st. The James Taylor Building is a great huge old industrial warehouse just off Wells street (which is off Mare street). I am showing some new paintings on glass alongside some illustrators including my good friends Cailtin Hinshelwood and James Nash who are pretty good so do come check it out.
The private view is this Friday 21st August.

It will then be open over this weekend, and Wednesday to the following Saturday so there's really no excuse not to catch it!
